I have taken this sentiment and applied it to the rose. It is now the red rose turned magenta. One rose I grow now, as the photo does not quite capture, is such a magenta color (though on some days, appears to be a deep crimson red):

Why magenta, is by inspiration of the magenta stone called porphyry, as would not be meaningful without the namesake Byzantine Queen, Anna Porphyrogenita . Porphyrogenita translates into “born in the purple”, after the porphyry-lined room in which she was born. The queen most known as having married the figure central to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, Vladimir the Great.

However is geopolitics not the point. The point is something more … the inexplicable more I signify with the rose, this time, a magenta one. Thus inexplicably, a singular other.

In Flora & Fauna, I began with saxi____, the low-lying flower found in the tundra. Flowers suggest ancient times, more ancient than there have been humans on earth. Times otherwise barren of plants and life, and formation — except for those straining to find the sun. Times suggesting the early days of Genesis.

Genesis, where Adam is described as rising up from, then making his way East. There, to reach Eden.

In the ages since, has the world searched for Eden. Where is it? Many who interpreted it as a physical place somewhere in the Middle East. If this were true, it would have been found by now. The clue / contradiction we overlooked, is the very apple tree.

Detour for a moment for the apple - the fruit so widely cultivated in the U.S., it gave us the expression “as American as apple pie.”

The first apple seeds in America, were brought over by French Jesuits (Catholics) in the late 1500s, who arrived in Florida (St. Augustine) and the Maine coast near Canada. As neither climate is conducive to bringing apple trees (pardon the pun) to fruition, the first successful plantings occurred in Massachusetts, by seeds brought over by English settlers, aka, Pilgrims.

Either way, the apple tree attempted, because of Genesis. The literal interpretation that has prevented people from finding Eden this whole time — the literal belief in an apple tree. that did not suddenly render that new place, the “found Eden”. We know this was the attempt, as the area of Maine where French settled was called Acadia, which means paradise, aka, Eden. The name stuck giving us Acadia National Park in Maine.
